This section contains a wide variety databases, including: Associations (Organizations) Directory; Book Reviews; Children's Resources; Dissertations; Encyclopedia Britannica; Essays; General Reference Resources; General, Comprehensive, and lower-level journal databases; Government Publications; Electronic (online) Books; Newspapers; Statistical Data; Vocational Resources) 

The following two points may assist you in using them effectively.

Multidiscipline databases such as General OneFile, ProQuest [All combined], and Wiley Interscience contain information from many subject areas, combined into one database. See description of the individual for details on their exact content.

AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive Includes images.

Searchable archive of the Associated Press photo files.

AgeLine Includes full text.

AgeLine is produced by AARP. Its references come from the gerontology collection of AARP's Research Information Center, as well as selected articles from 300 magazines and journals. All references include original abstracts.

All ProQuest [combined databases] via ProQuest Includes full text.

ArticleFirst via FirstSearch

Indexes journals covering science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities and popular culture.

 

Associations Unlimited via InfoTrac Web Includes full text.

Contains information for approximately 460,000 international and U.S. national, regional, state, and local nonprofit membership organizations in all fields, including IRS data on U.S. 501(c) nonprofit organizations.

Biography and Genealogy Master Index via InfoTrac Web

This database provides extensive lists of sources where biographical information may be obtained. While the database itself does not provide information concerning individuals, it indicates the resources where this information may be found.

Biography Reference Bank via Wilson Web Includes full text.

Contains articles and abstracts dealing with over 500,000 people. Where full text is not available, a list of databases is provided, indicating other databases in which full text of abstracts may be found.

Book Collection: Nonfiction via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Designed for school libraries, contains more than 2,000 full-text books addressing many areas of school curriculum, including social studies and science.

Book Review Digest Plus via Wilson Web Includes full text.

Covering over 550,000 books, provides indexes of reviews of current fiction and non-fiction, with over 100,000 reviews in full text.

This database is provided as part of Troy University's participation with the Alabama Virtual Library (AVL). Click on the AVL logo to read more about.

Books in Print via Bowker Publishing

Contains publishing and pricing information with some book reviews. Useful for literature searches.

CollegeSource Online via CollegeSource Includes full text.

Provides access to a large number of college catalogs as well as links to their respective Web pages and profiles.

Contemporary Women's Issues via FirstSearch 

Indexes books, journals, and various agencies, to address such issues as health and human rights.

CQ Researcher via CQ Electronic Library Includes full text.

Offers in-depth, non-biased 12,000-word reports on political and social issues, covering such topics as health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy. Reports date back to 1991.

Dissertation Abstracts Online via FirstSearch

Abstracts of dissertations. Many of these are not available through interlibrary loan.

EBSCO Animals via EbscoHost Includes full text.

For the elementary reader, provides in-depth information in the Encyclopedia of Animals on a variety of topics relating to animals.

 

Encyclopedia Britannica Includes full text.

Online Encyclopedia Britannica, in several reader-level editions, contains articles, images, and related Internet links.

Europa World Includes full text.

Europa World is the online version of the Europa World Year Book, a valuable source of world-wide information covering political and economic information about more than 250 countries and territories, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

Fiction Connection

Provides lists of suggested reading in fiction and biography titles. Users may select by author, genre, timeframe, etc., to find similar titles. Reviews, excerpts, and other information are included.

 

Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia via EbscoHost Includes full text.

This database provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.

General OneFile via InfoTrac Web Includes full text.

A large index combining the academic and non-academic periodicals of many InfoTrac databases, covering a broad range of such topics as business, humanities, and technology.

General Reference Center Gold via InfoTrac Web Includes full text.

General interest database that integrates a variety of sources in one easy-to-use interface. Provides information on current events, popular culture, business and industry coverage, the arts and sciences, sports, hobbies, and more.

GPO Access

This service of the Government Printing Office provides indexing to some documents and full text of others.

   

Informe via InfoTrac Web Includes full text.

A collection of general Hispanic magazines with full text, covering business, health, technology, culture, and other current topics.

Journal Search via Serial Solutions

Use Journal Search to search for the location of full text-journals within the online databases provided by Troy. This does not provide full text of articles but indicates where full text is found, if it’s available in at least one of Troy’s online databases. Be sure to look at dates of holdings to see if your article is available.

LexisNexis Academic via LexisNexis Includes full text.

A primary resource for full text journal articles, this is the gateway to a number of databases embedded within. After you are in these databases, click the appropriate area of interest in the left-hand column. Resources include business articles, case law, law reviews, industry reports, company reports, statistics, and health care news. Clicking the various buttons at the top of their page (How Do I?, Sources, News, etc.) produces helpful information.

Library, Information Science & Technology via EbscoHost. Includes full text. Text is linked from other Ebsco databases.

Indexes over 600 periodicals, books, research reports, and proceedings, with coverage extending back to mid-1960s.

MAS Ultra - School Edition via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Designed for high school students, database provides full text from nearly 600 general interest and current events publications, covering a broad range of topics. Contains American Heritage Dictionary and World Almanac & Book of Facts.

MasterFile Premier via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Intended for general rather than scholarly audience, contains full text for over 2,000 periodicals, as well as biographies, primary source documents, and images.

Middle Search Plus via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Provides full text for more than 150 popular magazines for middle and junior high school research, as well as reference books and thousands of biographies and primary resource documents.

MLA Directory of Periodicals via EbscoHost

Offers detailed information on over 7,100 journals, primarily those pertaining to literature and the arts. Entries include editorial contact information, as well as frequency, circulation, subscription prices, and submission guidelines. Does not include articles.

MLA International Bibliography via EbscoHost Includes full text. Text is linked from other Ebsco databases.

Index to the writings about literature, criticism, language, linguistics and folklore.

National Newspaper Abstracts via ProQuest Includes full text.

Full-text content of primary articles in three national newspapers: New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.

NetLibrary Includes full text.

A specially created online collection of nearly 50,000 full-text books, in a broad range of academic subject categories. These are actual academic books that have been digitized for the convenience of library users. Make sure to read HELP.

Newspaper Source via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Regional US and international newspapers, with selected full text.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center via InfoTrac Web Includes full text.

A source for information on conflicting viewpoints on social issues. Geared to high school and General Studies college courses, it includes articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to Web sites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles.

Oxford English Dictionary via Oxford University Press Includes full text.

Guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over half a million words, past and present. Includes words from Great Britain, North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean.

Oxford Reference Online Premium Includes full text.

More than 150 full-text reference sources, e.g., subject-specific and general encyclopedias, handbooks, and dictionaries covering many academic disciplines.

 

Primary Search via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Provides full text for more than 60 popular, magazines for elementary school research. Also contains Encyclopedia of Animals, Funk & Wagnall’s New World Encyclopedia, and American Heritage Children’s Dictionary.

ProQuest Newspapers via ProQuest Includes full text.

RCLweb

Consists of annotated lists of resources recommended by the Association of College Research Libraries for inclusion in academic libraries. The core list features 65,000 titles in 58 curriculum-specific subject, with reviews of all items.

Searchasaurus via EBSCO Publishing Includes full text.

A database for children, this also contains a section called Pictures, which includes photos of people, place, maps, historical subjects, flags, and natural science subjects, some of which might be useful to any audience.

SIRS Discoverer Includes full text.

General Reference Database Designed for Young Researchers.

General Reference source covering social scientific, historic, economic, and political issues from national and international publications. Informative rather than scholarly.

SocINDEX with Full Text via EbscoHost Includes full text.

SocINDEX with Full Text is a very comprehensive sociology research database, featuring more than 1,300,000 records with subject headings from a 15,000 term sociology-specific thesaurus. The database contains full text for 235 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895, and 72 "priority" coverage journals. This database also includes full text for 545 books and monographs, and full text for 6,601 conference papers.

SPORTDiscus via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Provided by the Sport Information Resource Centre, SPORTDiscus offers comprehensive indexing of sport, fitness and related disciplines. Linked to full-text articles in other databases.

Vocational and Career Collection via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Designed for vocational and technical libraries servicing high schools, community colleges, trade institutions and the general public. This collection provides full-text coverage for 400 trade and industry-related periodicals with indexing for 650.

Westlaw Campus via Westlaw Includes full text.

An online legal research tool designed and built especially for undergraduates and other non-law-student students.

Wiley Interscience via Wiley Includes full text.

This database, containing only resources published by John Wiley & Sons, covers a number of disciplines, especially business, psychology, and social sciences. Resources consist mostly of journals, but also online books and reference works. Most, but not all, materials are full text. Searching it takes a little patience, but there is excellent material.

Wilson Select Plus via FirstSearch

Index with some abstracts of science, humanities, education and business resources.

World History Collection via EbscoHost Includes full text.

Over 150 full-text titles covers a wide-range of world-wide historical topics, including culture, government, heritage, regional issues, sociology, and more.

WorldCat via FirstSearch

A specialized database used to determine location of books and journals not held by Troy University, for purposes of Interlibrary Loan. Information includes the libraries that own the item, what editions or issues they hold, in which of their libraries (general, medical, science, etc.) it is found, and whether it’s in the reference or circulation collection.

World Data Analyst via Encyclopedia Britannica Includes full text.

Offers detailed statistical comparisons of countries around the world, using both the most recent statistics and historical figures. Allows for creating tables and charts. Contains articles on countries from Britannica Concise Encyclopedia.
