Note: The Library does not lend text books.

You MUST review Policies and Procedure  before using the online forms. Please do not use these forms if you are not sure of all the required data (author, title, etc.).  If you need assistance in requesting an ILL, please check with your Librarians (click here for contact information).

ILL Policies and Procedures for students in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee (scroll down please)

The forms which are linked from this page allow you to request the following materials through interlibrary loan (ILL):

  • Photocopies of  journal articles, not the journals themselves
  • Books & government documents within the Troy Library System

You may not request the following items: Text books, Audiovisual/media materials, Reference Books, and Special Collection. These items items DO NOT CIRCULATE.

PURPOSE:

Interlibrary loans should be utilized to obtain materials that are not available at your local library facilities or via TROY online services. TROY can provide books from within its own Library system (Troy, Dothan, Montgomery, and Phenix City), and articles from not only the TROY libraries, but other libraries as well.

If you need assistance in filling out ILL forms, or are unsure of the information to be entered on the forms, please check with your Library Services staff by phone, (850) 301-2154 or (800) 638-7237, or e-mail library1@troy.edu.

AUTHORIZED ILL USERS:

1. Currently registered TROY students, faculty and staff.

2. Students who are not currently registered, but who are finishing an incomplete.

SECURITY & PRIVACY:

Although the circulation records of the library are private, users should be aware that the online request forms are not transmitted on a secure system. ILL requests are transmitted via unsecured e-mail to the Library Services Office.

COPYRIGHT:

All requests are subject to the following copyright restrictions that appear on each form.

NOTICE - WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTION

  1. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.
  2. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
  3. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

DELIVERY & RETURN OF MATERIALS:

DELIVERY  OF MATERIALS:

All students will have their materials shipped directly to their home or office. The standard shipping method is via UPS. Because UPS cannot deliver to P.O. boxes, it is necessary to supply a physical street address.

RETURN OF MATERIALS:

ARTICLES: Copies of periodical articles become the property of the student and should not be returned.

BOOKS: BOOKS MUST BE RETURNED! Books and government documents usually circulate for THREE WEEKS.  Items may usually be renewed for an additional three weeks. Please let us know ahead of time if you need to renew an item.

TROY books may be returned either to the student's site office (with a request to mail it to the TROY Library that owns the book) or to the Library Services Office, or directly to the TROY Library which owns the book and mailed it to the student.

If the student returns books to a site office, it is a good practice to e-mail the Library Services Office stating the date the student returned the books and to which staff member.

You are responsible for returning books and government documents. See Clearance of Library Obligations (below).

FEES and TIME LIMITATIONS:

For materials owned by the TROY Libraries, there is no charge for ILL services. For journal articles not owned by the TROY Libraries, there may be a charge for ILL services imposed by the lending library, and such a charge will be passed to the student. The student will be advised of a charge before the material is ordered, to allow the student to cancel the order, if necessary.

Please request materials as soon as you can.

    MATERIALS  REQUESTED FROM:

  • The TROY system are usually shipped from the lending library the same or next day after receipt of the request and delivered within 3 working days after mailing.
  • Outside the Troy system (articles), 7 to 14 working days.

CLEARANCE OF LIBRARY OBLIGATIONS:

Most materials are provided free of charge.  When fees are charged, they are due at the time you receive your materials. You will receive an invoice requesting a check or money order made payable to Troy University. If materials arrive too late for you to use, you are still obligated for the fees. Payments should be sent to:

Troy University Library Services
81 Beal Parkway SE
Fort Walton Beach,
FL 32548

All library obligations must be cleared by the end of each term. A student who fails to clear obligations may not be permitted to register, receive grades, or obtain a transcript from the University.
